Perla Villareal, local representative of District IV of
Monterrey, is one of the women who, accompanied by the men, all legislators
from the state of Nuevo León, broke the silence and through a video, spoke
about what was already an open secret: that the governor of the state, Samuel
García, the party in which he is a member, Movimiento Ciudadano and,
incidentally, Donaldo Colosio, the municipal president of Monterrey, set aside
the law and privilege their personal interests, violating the rights of others,
including those of local opposition deputies.
We leave this statement of facts and complaint by Perla
Villareal to you. It is you who make the final judgment on the archaic and
reprehensible way in which one of the Mexican states is governed that,
according to its own people, deserves a better government:
“Being a woman is difficult, being a woman in politics is
even more difficult, being a political woman harassed on issues of gender
violence is something that no one should experience.
During this year in the Congress of Nuevo León we approved
various reforms to the local Constitution on different issues, some of these in
order to prevent excessive abuse of power by the governor, seeking balance
between different public functions. Given this, the Citizen Movement bench,
together with its state leadership, have gone so far as to hold various press
conferences to publicly state that they seek to gain a majority in the State
Congress. They have expressed it between the lines and affirm that it is urgent
that the governor be able to do whatever he wants, despite the law.
This has turned out to be so true that, with their recent
actions, they have hinted at the urgency that the Citizen Movement bench has in
wanting to gain more seats, such as the one left by former deputy Fernando
Adame and his substitute, precisely due to pressures that the state government
was exercising over both. They have tried in every way to want to remove that
seat from my colleague and deputy Cecilia Robledo, even contradicting her
speech on parity, alleging that that seat belongs to a man and not a woman...
as long as they keep another member in Congress .
I made it clear to the governor for a long time that my will
is not for sale, that my loyalty is with Nuevo León and the residents of the
District that I represent. I continue and will continue with the PRI
legislative group that nominated me and for which I was elected.
I have filed formal complaints with the corresponding
authorities, so that they continue to investigate not only the acts of
harassment against my family, but also the entire actions of these agencies
that are being used for apparent extortion purposes. The systematic persecution
of the government of Samuel García of the opposition is an attack on democracy,
it is the main feature of a despotic and authoritarian government that does not
admit any idea that is not aligned with its interests, regardless of whether it
is for the good of the state.
Not even 24 hours
later, when the effects of the protection order were suspended, the state
authorities returned to harass my family's businesses.
I am sure that the
Supreme Court, once it thoroughly studies this matter and learns about the
unprecedented context of extortion and political persecution, will agree with
us.
I looked for the
governor directly and his private secretary to be able to talk, add and build,
and it is a date that he did not want to face me. He continues to attack us
publicly as we have seen in past days at all his events. Another thing that is
really serious is the way they use the Civil Force to intimidate and deprive
workers, my family and friends of their freedom.
We want a free Nuevo León, a Nuevo León where institutions
are not used for purposes that were not created, a government that respects
Powers and where being a woman is free. Today there are more than 75 acts of
inconvenience towards me and my family reported to the Nuevo León State
Prosecutor's Office.
Today we women stand up and raise our voices. Today we
demand respect and freedom of expression. Today we are not afraid. Today we
tell the governor of Nuevo León to dedicate himself to building the state that
is falling apart, to respect the division of powers and the rule of law, to let
us work. Let him join in building, not dividing. Today we say Mr. Governor with
the women of Nuevo León, NO.
