The special rapporteur of the Inter-American Commission on
Human Rights (IACHR), Pedro Vaca, assured this Monday that Venezuela "has
not improved" its conditions to guarantee freedom of expression and access
to information, which makes the South American country one of the "most
adverse" to practice journalism.
"It has not improved to the extent that in the 2019
report of the IACHR it was in the chapter reserved for the most critical
situations, and it remains during the year 2020," said Vaca, who pointed
out that Venezuela has been there for "several years consecutively
"in that section of the IACHR's annual reports, the website Impacto
Venezuela reviewed.
Last March, the IACHR published a report on the status of
press freedom in America in which it denounced that "serious violations of
the right to freedom of expression continued to be the rule during 2020"
in Venezuela.
