In Venezuela there is a maximum deterioration of freedom of expression

The special rapporteur of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR), Pedro Vaca, assured this Monday that Venezuela "has not improved" its conditions to guarantee freedom of expression and access to information, which makes the South American country one of the "most adverse" to practice journalism.

"It has not improved to the extent that in the 2019 report of the IACHR it was in the chapter reserved for the most critical situations, and it remains during the year 2020," said Vaca, who pointed out that Venezuela has been there for "several years consecutively "in that section of the IACHR's annual reports, the website Impacto Venezuela reviewed.

Last March, the IACHR published a report on the status of press freedom in America in which it denounced that "serious violations of the right to freedom of expression continued to be the rule during 2020" in Venezuela.
