WHO does not see the end of the epidemic and countries resort to local confinements

"The end of the epidemic is not even close," says the World Health Organization (WHO) as it continues to rise in countries like the United States or Brazil. In those that have it controlled, they fight the outbreaks and resort, among other measures, to local confinements, such as that of the English city of Leicester.

And the WHO explains that although many countries have managed to control the spread of the coronavirus, others are seeing the virus re-emerge and the global trend is towards an acceleration of infections. The epidemic is on the rise.

This reflection coincides with the day on which the 10 million confirmed cases and more than half a million deaths due to coronavirus have been surpassed worldwide.

A million new cases have accumulated in the last five days, showing how far the infection curve continues to rise with the most severe foci located in India, the United States and Brazil.

"The virus still has a lot of room to move, we all want this to end, we all want to return to normal, but the reality is that this is not even close to ending," said WHO Director-General Tedros Adhamon Ghebreyesus in conference of press.
