U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi ordered the dismissal of a
Justice Department paralegal after an incident surfaced in which the employee
made an obscene gesture toward a member of the National Guard while on her way
to work. The incident occurred on Friday and, according to official sources,
was considered a serious breach of the expected conduct of public servants.
The dismissed employee was identified as Elizabeth Baxter,
who worked in the Justice Department's environmental division. Her case has
garnered particular attention because she worked in the same building as
another employee recently involved in a similar scandal: paralegal Sean Charles
Dunn, who was caught on video earlier this month allegedly throwing a Subway
salami sandwich at a Border Patrol agent, according to The New York Post.
These consecutive incidents have drawn criticism of the work
environment within the Department of Justice and ignited a debate about the
conduct and responsibility of public servants, especially in a context of
heightened political and social tension surrounding security and immigration
issues. Attorney General Bondi emphasized that such behavior is unacceptable
and asserted that actions that disrespect law enforcement or damage the image
of government institutions will not be tolerated.
Authorities have not ruled out reviewing other similar cases
and strengthening internal disciplinary rules to prevent the recurrence of
situations that could compromise the credibility of the Department of Justice
and public trust in its officials.
