Former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte was arrested
Tuesday on charges of crimes against humanity related to his deadly war on
drugs, the Wall Street Journal reported.
The International Criminal Court (ICC) issued an arrest
warrant accusing Duterte of orchestrating the killings of thousands of people
during his six years as president and his 22 years as mayor of Davao City.
Following his arrest, the 79-year-old former president was
flown to The Hague, Netherlands, the ICC headquarters.
"This is not justice, it's oppression and
persecution," Sara Duterte, the former president's daughter, denounced,
according to the Western Journal.
