President Joe Biden's administration announced Tuesday that
there were no plans to recover and refreeze $6 billion in Iranian assets after
Tehran-backed Hamas launched the deadliest attack on the country of Israel in
decades.
In an interview with Fox News, National Security Council
Strategic Communications Coordinator John Kirby said there are no plans to
refreeze those assets, which were released about a month ago.
"The 6 billion dollars that the Qataris have and that
were unfrozen to recover three hostages." Fox News' Martha MacCallum
asked, "Is that money going to be frozen again now?"
"I don't want to get ahead of the political decisions
that will be made here," Kirby responded. “As I said last time, you and I
talked about this, that the money can be refrozen… We will not hesitate to make
that decision if we feel it is necessary. But I am not going to get ahead of a
political decision that has not yet been made.”CBrief
