Members of Congress and former President Donald Trump's
lawyers want the nation's highest court to intervene as federal cases against
him mount.
Democratic members of Congress sent a letter this week to
the Judicial Conference of the United States, a consortium of 18 federal judges
led by Chief Justice John Roberts. The letter urges the conference to take
action and allow television coverage of Trump's latest case related to his
alleged involvement in the January 6, 2021 riot at the US Capitol, which
occurred after his loss in the US election. 2020.
"As a policymaking body for the federal courts, the
Judicial Conference has historically supported greater transparency and public
access to court activities," the letter said, according to the outlet.
“Given the historic nature of the charges brought in these
cases, it is difficult to imagine a more powerful circumstance for televised
proceedings.
