The weak government of Castillo in Bolivia seeks diplomat

Peru continues without a chancellor a day after the early resignation of Héctor Béjar, while President Pedro Castillo looks for a replacement on Wednesday to overcome the first political crisis of his fragile government.

The leftist president, who took office three weeks ago, avoided specifying whether he planned to name former Foreign Minister Manuel Rodríguez Cuadros as Béjar's successor.

Rodríguez had said early Wednesday that he would be received by the president hours later.

The newspaper La República assured, however, that Rodríguez had declined to be the new foreign minister, whose first task would be to prepare for Castillo's visit to the United States, announced for September.
