The European Union evaluates dealing with the Taliban

Recent statements by Josep Borrell, high representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Policy, make noise.

The European official asked to deal with the Taliban because they "have won the war." Defeatist words in the midst of a delicate context, as the international community still demands respect for the human rights of Afghans who are in the country and who must survive Islamic extremism.

On the other hand, there are the consequences at the strategic level, due to the bridges that the terrorist group could build with countries with hegemonic interests such as Russia, China and Iran.

"We will deal with the Afghan authorities as they are, but at the same time remaining naturally vigilant about the respect of the international obligations accepted by the different Afghan governments for more than 15 years," Borrell outlined after a videoconference with EU foreign ministers regarding to the Afghan crisis.
