In anticipation of the significant increase in passengers
during the holiday season and the end of the year, Miami International Airport
(MIA) has implemented a new biometric system to expedite and streamline
security checks. The measure aims to reduce wait times and facilitate the flow
of the thousands of travelers who pass through one of the busiest airport
terminals in the United States daily.
The new strategy includes the installation of biometric
gates, known as eGates, developed by the company CLEAR, which are already
operational in the TSA PreCheck lines. Thanks to this technology, passengers
can verify their identity through biometric recognition, without needing to
show physical documents such as government-issued IDs or boarding passes,
according to airport officials.
MIA officials indicated that the system is specifically
designed to handle peak demand during the holiday season, when the flow of
domestic and international travelers increases considerably. In addition to
streamlining the process, they assert that the technology reinforces security
standards by reducing physical contact and minimizing human error.
The implementation of these biometric gates is part of a
broader effort to modernize the airport experience and adapt infrastructure to
new technologies, in a context where airports across the country are seeking
innovative solutions to manage record passenger volumes without compromising
security or efficiency.
