A Takhar woman was shot dead by Taliban fighters solely for
appearing in public without her headscarf.
A photo has appeared on social media of a woman from Takhar
province lying in a pool of blood, surrounded by her grieving family.
Last week, the Taliban killed another woman in Herat,
allegedly for wearing tight jeans.
The Taliban spokesman, hours earlier, was categorical in
stating that the insurgent group would respect the rights of women, within the
rules of sharia, according to the Associated Press.
According to The Independent, the militant reassured the
Taliban's commitment by urging women to go back to school and work and even to
join his government in Afghanistan. It also came that a journalist broadcast an
interview with another Taliban spokesperson.
