Afghans will be in Ecuador before arriving in the US

Ecuador will receive Afghan citizens, mainly women, in transit to the United States and displaced by the crisis in their country, where the Taliban regained power after being deposed in 2001, President Guillermo Lasso reported on Monday.

"We will provide humanitarian aid to Afghan families, victims of the conflict. Ecuador will temporarily receive Afghans in transit to the United States, as part of an international cooperation agreement to guarantee their safety and protection," the president wrote on his Twitter account.

The message was accompanied by a statement from the General Secretariat of Communication of the Presidency that indicates that Quito is willing to "collaborate with the safe departure of foreigners and native citizens of Afghanistan."
