Support for earthquake victims in Haiti paralyzed

Ten days after the earthquake that devastated the southwest of Haiti, leaving more than 2,200 dead and 12,000 injured, the victims oscillate between resignation and resistance, trying to face the lack of assistance on a daily basis.

"Little by little I am resuming my activity," Edouard, who works as a motorcycle taxi driver in Los Cayos, near the epicenter of the 7.2 magnitude earthquake that struck the country on August 14, told AFP.

"But so far we are not calm because he is still shaking: this morning, there was a strong scare," he underlines. "He was out there but that didn't stop him from running."

Traffic is in full swing in the center of Los Cayos and life in this town in the southern department of Haiti could seem normal if several of the side streets were not impassable.
