Democratic Representative Jasmine Crockett is at the center
of a new controversy after one of her security team members was accused of
pushing a reporter who was trying to ask her a direct question about her stance
on two cases that have generated intense public debate in the United States.
The incident occurred when the reporter questioned why the
congresswoman was visibly moved by the death of Renee Good, a woman who had
previously driven her car into an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)
agent, but did not express the same reaction to the case of Ashli Babbitt,
who died during the 2021 Capitol Hill protests.
According to witnesses, when the reporter pressed for an
answer, the bodyguard intervened and physically pushed her away, preventing her
from continuing her questioning, while the congresswoman left the scene without
making a statement.
The incident has drawn criticism for an alleged attempt to
silence the press and has reignited the debate about the unequal treatment some
politicians give to victims depending on the political context of the case. For
many observers, the reporter's question pointed to an apparent double standard
in how Crockett handles tragic events involving immigration and law
enforcement.
So far, the congresswoman's office has not issued an
official explanation about what happened or the conduct of her security
personnel, but the incident is already circulating widely on social media and
in the press, fueling a new controversy surrounding her public image.
