Federal agents kill two suspects in Portland after attempted hit-and-run; one had ties to the Tren de Aragua gang

A serious security incident occurred in Portland, Oregon, after U.S. Border Patrol agents opened fire on two individuals who allegedly attempted to run them over with a vehicle during an operation. Both individuals were wounded by the gunfire.

According to preliminary information provided by authorities, the agents responded with lethal force because they believed their lives were in immediate danger, as the vehicle was used as a weapon to ram them.

Subsequent investigations revealed that one of those involved was a suspected member of the Tren de Aragua gang, a transnational criminal organization linked to various crimes in several countries across the continent. This individual was also already under investigation for his possible involvement in a recent shooting in Portland.

The incident has prompted a large-scale mobilization of federal and local forces, as well as the temporary closure of the area while forensic experts and specialized agents gather evidence to determine exactly what happened.

Federal authorities reported that the case will undergo an internal review and a formal investigation to determine whether the use of force was in accordance with protocols, although they emphasized that, according to initial indications, the officers acted in self-defense against a direct threat.

The incident has once again brought to the forefront the presence of transnational criminal organizations in the United States and the level of risk faced by law enforcement agencies in operations involving these types of groups.
