Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon announced
yesterday the Justice Department's intention to charge Don Lemon under the Ku
Klux Klan Act following his actions at a Minneapolis church. This law prohibits
threatening, injuring, or intimidating people to prevent them from exercising
their religious rights:
"The Ku Klux Klan Act is one of the most important
federal civil rights statutes. It prohibits terrorizing and violating the civil
rights of citizens. Whenever someone conspires to do so, the Ku Klux Klan Act
can be used."
"Everyone in the protest community should know that the
federal government will deploy its full force to prevent this from happening
and imprison people for a long period."
