During a private meeting with a select group of
international media in Oslo, Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado
delivered a direct message to the government of Nicolás Maduro: the option of
dialogue or negotiation only makes sense if it serves to respect the popular
will and facilitate the president's relinquishment of power. She emphasized
that this is not a political concession, but rather a mandate from the people,
which, in her view, has already been clearly expressed by the Venezuelan
people.
The leader also recounted that her arrival in the Norwegian
capital was marked by moments of extreme tension and danger. She described the
journey as an intense and agonizing experience, during which she felt her life
was in real danger. These circumstances, she explained, accompanied her entire
journey to attend the ceremony where she was recognized as the winner of the
2025 Nobel Peace Prize.
In her statement to accredited journalists, Machado
expressed deep gratitude to those who showed genuine concern for her safety and
that of her family. At the same time, she emphasized that she would not provide
details about the logistical aspects of her journey, as revealing such
information could endanger those who supported her and facilitated her arrival
in Oslo.
Beyond the political component, the opposition leader
described the experience as a profoundly spiritual process. She noted that,
faced with the risks and uncertainty, she decided to entrust herself to God and
accept the outcome of the mission according to His will. For Machado, this act
of faith was a source of personal strength during one of the most delicate
moments of her public career.
Her statements, made within the context of a highly symbolic
international recognition, reinforce her position as one of the most visible
voices of the Venezuelan opposition and once again place the debate on a
political transition at the center of international attention.
