Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem raised alarm bells by revealing that several U.S. federal agents have been the target of direct threats from gangs, drug cartels, and international terrorist organizations. According to the official, these criminal groups have even offered bounties on the agents' heads, a situation she described as “unprecedented” in terms of national security.
During an interview broadcast on Fox & Friends Weekend,
Noem explained that the magnitude and coordination of these threats demonstrate
a level of criminal organization never seen before. “We are facing a completely
new scenario. Gangs, cartels, and certain extremist groups are collaborating
and employing tactics typical of terrorist organizations to intimidate our law
enforcement agencies,” she stated.
The secretary warned that these actions not only seek to
destabilize the operations of federal agencies, but also to generate fear among
agents who daily confront organized crime at the border and within the country.
"Our officers are being threatened for carrying out their duties. This is
a direct attack on those who protect the safety of American citizens," she
added.
Noem emphasized the need to strengthen protective measures
for agents and improve coordination between different federal and state
agencies. She also stressed that the government is working to identify the
sources of funding and communication channels used by these criminal
organizations to plan their attacks and spread threats.
The revelation has raised concerns among security experts
and lawmakers, who agree that this type of intimidation represents a growing
risk to the stability and operational capacity of the institutions responsible
for national security. Some analysts have suggested that transnational violence
and the strengthening of cartels could be behind the rise in these threats.
"This is a form of psychological warfare against the
state," commented a security specialist consulted by local media.
"When federal agents know there is a price on their heads, it affects
morale, effectiveness, and the willingness to act in high-risk
operations."
Noem concluded her remarks by reiterating the Department of
Homeland Security's commitment to the protection of all federal agents and the
defense of the country against internal and external threats. "We will not
allow organized crime or terrorism to dictate the rules. We will defend our
people and our nation," she stated.
