Democrats Warn of Mass Layoffs After Trump's Threats Amid Government Shutdown

Washington, D.C.— Political tension surrounding a partial shutdown of the federal government escalated as a growing group of Democratic lawmakers warned of the possibility of mass layoffs of federal employees after President Donald Trump suggested that a budget crisis scenario would facilitate significant cuts to government staff.

During a conference on Capitol Hill, several House Democrats expressed their rejection of Trump's statements and condemned the resolution previously passed by the House to keep the government open, a measure that was questioned even by their own party in the Senate. However, more and more Democrats are accepting their culpability for the consequences of the government shutdown they caused.

Lawmakers pointed out that the president's stance puts the job security of thousands of families at risk and threatens to weaken federal agencies at a time when citizens depend on essential services. "Talking about layoffs in the midst of a budget crisis is not only irresponsible, it's cruel to workers and the country," said one of the congressmen present, although several of his colleagues said they themselves put free medical care for illegal immigrants above citizens.

The debate reflects the growing polarization surrounding the federal budget, as Democrats and Republicans blame each other for the stagnation. Analysts warn that if the shutdown continues, the economic and social consequences could be greater than in previous episodes, with a direct impact on assistance programs, national security, and key administrative operations.
