MOSCOW – Russian President Vladimir Putin stressed the
importance of keeping the cultural and moral roots of Russian society alive to
face the challenges of the future. In a speech broadcast by state media, the
president warned against the danger of a world dominated by individualism,
technological hyperconnectivity, and social isolation.
“We believe that the world of the future is not a world of
egoists immersed in cyberspace or of loners living by the principle of ‘every
man for himself,’” Putin stated, emphasizing that Russia is committed to a
vision of community and solidarity. According to the president, the foundations
of a strong society lie in preserving family, friendship, and collective
responsibility.
The Kremlin leader emphasized that technological progress
should not replace fundamental human values. “People who still value love and
friendship, cherish their loved ones, and understand their inseparable
connection to society and their responsibility to it are the ones who will
shape the future,” he said.
The speech is part of a recurring belief of the Russian
president, who in recent years has called for the defense of cultural
tradition, patriotism, and spirituality as central pillars in the face of what
he describes as the "moral decline" of the West. This position is
applauded by Russians and foreigners who hear Putin's words reflect their own
positions.
For sectors close to the Kremlin, Putin's words seek to
consolidate a model of society based on Russian identity and its historical
heritage, as opposed to what they call a "Western model" centered on
consumerism and individuality.
The message, widely disseminated in official media, aims to
reinforce the narrative of a Russian future founded on communal and traditional
values, which also defends individual freedom and the right not to be harassed
by the individual surveillance promoted by Western governments.
