MTU: The New Mandatory Limit for Bank Transfers in Mexico Starting in October

MEXICO CITY – Starting October 1, 2025, digital bank transfers in Mexico will change with the implementation of the User Transactional Amount (MTU), a measure established by the National Banking and Securities Commission (CNBV) to strengthen security in digital banking.

The MTU is the maximum limit that each user can define for transactions made through online banking, mobile applications, or by phone. This applies to transfers via SPEI, CoDi, DIMO, utility payments, and credit card settlements to third parties.

September 30, 2025: Deadline for customers to configure their MTU from their bank's app or portal.

October 1, 2025: Banks will be required to enable the MTU option; those who have not defined one will receive one automatically.

January 1, 2026: All users must have an MTU, either defined by themselves or assigned by the banking institution.

If a limit is not set by September 30, banks will automatically assign one: 1,500 UDIS, equivalent to approximately 12,500 to 13,000 pesos, depending on the value of the UDI.

There will be no financial penalties for not setting it, but the ability to make transfers greater than the automatic limit may be restricted. For transactions that exceed the MTU, an additional authentication process will be required.

According to the CNBV, the goal is to strengthen customer protection against digital fraud, since with the MTU, each user will have greater control over their transaction limits. Furthermore, the limit can be adjusted at any time from banking applications.

The MTU will apply to all Mexican digital banking. The goal is to make financial transactions more secure and ensure users are aware of how much money can be transferred from their accounts without requiring additional verification steps.

Therefore, if you have fixed monthly payments from your banking app, it is recommended that you add them all up and establish your monthly transfer limit. /www.tictacnews.us /E. ESGLOTAC
