A Mexican is accused of trying to bribe a Border Patrol agent

The federal government is charging a Mexican national with attempting to bribe a U.S. Border Patrol agent after he was caught illegally re-entering the United States.

Court records show that on February 8, 2025, Samuel Mendoza-Torres, 29, was arrested with another person near the Santa Teresa Border Patrol Station. Mendoza-Torres reportedly asked the agent, "Can we fix this?" and offered him $400 to get him out of jail while he was taken to the station.

Mendoza-Torres admitted to helping illegal immigrants reach the United States from Mexico during an interview after his arrest. He also said he knew it was illegal to give money to the Border Patrol agent.
