Similarly, Lake strongly criticized Representative Gallego, of Hispanic origin: "Instead of fighting this crisis, Rubén Gallego wants to take money that could help stop this crisis and use it to fight the climate." Kari also addressed the representative: "Ruben, if someone overdoses on methamphetamine in 98 degree heat, the weather did not kill them. The drugs that you allowed into our country did."

Rep. Ruben Gallego is putting a strong spin on drug-related deaths, implying they were caused by heat, in order to pay for his $30 million pet projects bill.

Federal funding for more municipal pet projects, such as artificial shade structures, tree planting or “cooling stations,” will not stop the leading cause of heat-related deaths: drug overdoses, arizonadailyindependent reported.
