House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) responded after
Florida Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz appeared to threaten to try to remove him
from office over disagreements with the chamber's Freedom Caucus.
Punchbowl News editor-in-chief Heather Caygle on Tuesday
asked McCarthy about the “constant Twitter threats to overthrow him” posted by
Gaetz and a few others, but the California Republican seemed to dismiss them
out of hand.
“President McCarthy asked about @mattgaetz's constant
threats on Twitter to try to overthrow him: 'OMG, did someone tweet about me?'
Oh my god, I'm going to lose the speaker position because someone tweeted about
me. That would have happened a long time ago,'” he wrote.CBrief
