Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is changing his goal in the Iowa
caucuses and is no longer seeking a first-place finish, according to a source
who spoke to POLITICO over the weekend.
The outlet reported that a campaign insider said the popular
Republican governor would settle for second place behind a rising former
president, Donald Trump.
"We think it's already a two-person race," the
source said, adding that the campaign is seeking a "strong second
place" in Iowa, which holds the first primary nominating contest in the
country.
"But the reality is that there are other options on the
ballot, and our goal is to narrow this down to a two-person race on the ballot,
especially as we head to South Carolina and beyond in March," the person
told the outlet. .
"A good second place gives us a chance to go to New
Hampshire and show success," the source said.CBrief
