Resettlement for 20,000 Afghans announces UK

The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Boris Johnson, announced on Tuesday that he will resettle up to 20,000 Afghans in the country over the next few years in response to the situation in Afghanistan since the Taliban have taken the country.

Johnson said the plan foresees hosting 5,000 refugees during the first year, "especially women, girls and other people in need."

"We owe a debt of gratitude to all those who have worked with us to make Afghanistan a better place for the past twenty years," he said.

"Many of them, especially women, now urgently need our help. I am proud that the UK has been able to launch this route to help them and their families live safely in the UK."
