Vessels would violate law if they approach Cuba, warns National Security

MIAMI - Federal authorities in the United States have warned organizers of a planned flotilla next week from Florida to waters near Cuba that they may be breaking the law.

The Department of Homeland Security said in a notice that boat owners planning to enter Cuban territorial waters must obtain permission from the US Coast Guard. Violators could face fines of up to $ 25,000 a day and a 10-year prison sentence, the notice added.
