Venezuela puts its beards to soak. Arrests opposition congresman

CARACAS - A Venezuelan court decreed preventive detention early Thursday for Venezuelan deputy Freddy Guevara, a close collaborator of opposition leader Juan Guaidó, accused of terrorism.

Guevara was detained on Monday by members of the Venezuelan intelligence service, Sebin. The prosecution, accused of serving Chavismo, links him to the violent clashes between police and criminal gangs last week, which the dictator Nicolás Maduro links to a "plan" to overthrow him.

"We are obliged to have reservations, but it is more of the same," lawyer Theresly Malavé, part of the leader's legal team, explained to AFP. "Those facts that the prosecutors of the Public Ministry accused are brought by the hair."
