The people of Cuba, who have been in the streets for more
than a week in search of freedom, are not alone. Politicians, artists and
athletes have sent messages of encouragement to a society that has been
oppressed by the Castro regime for more than 60 years.
Miguel Ángel Rodríguez, former president of Costa Rica,
wrote an opinion article in which he urged the government of his country to
support Cubans. The former president, who is a member of the former heads of
state and government participating in the Democratic Initiative of Spain and
the Americas (IDEA), also signed the letter that this group published in
solidarity with the Cuban people.
