Isaac Herzog, former leader of the Labor Party and with a
long political career, took office today as the new president of the State of
Israel.
In the position considered eminently formal in nature, the
new Israeli president promised to work for all citizens with the goal of
appeasing the division and the long-standing political polarization of the
country.
"I make it my goal to fulfill the task of being
everyone's president every morning," Herzog said.
Herzog delivered his speech before the Israeli Parliament
(Knesset), during a solemn act where he was sworn in with what he formally replaced
the hitherto president, Reuvén Rivlin.
