More than 170 US lawmakers are demanding that the 2022
budget prevent taxpayer money from being used to finance abortion, in a letter
to President Joe Biden.
After presidents since 1977 supported the historic Hyde
Amendment, which prevents tax money from paying for the termination of the life
of unborn babies, this provision is eliminated in the budget presented by the
Biden administration, according to Townhall of the 6 of July.
"It is an affront to most Americans who do not want
their taxes to fund abortion on demand, which causes the death of children in
the womb," the lawmakers say in the letter.
And they add: "The key to the four and a half decade
longevity of the Hyde Amendment is that its purpose is clear and common sense:
it prohibits the use of federal funds for abortions (with exceptions)."
