The Antonio Guiteras Thermoelectric, from Matanzas, the
largest in Cuba and responsible for the electricity supply of the West of the
country, stopped sending energy to the national electrical energy system after
suffering a serious breakdown this Monday, according to DIARIO DE CUBA review
and therefore the duration of blackouts.
According to the Minister of Energy and Mines, Liván
Arronte, who according to the report supervised the repairs to which the plant
was subjected, what happened is an "atypical breakdown, which does not
normally occur."
The rupture occurred in the boiler support, when "the
lower part of the boiler, due to the fracture of two bolts, fell, and it must
be restored," said Arronte, who added that the repair will take "a
time that is not going to be short, because the magnitude of the damage is
considerable ".
