$ 27 million for Floyd's family after Chauvin's sentencing

George Floyd's family only needed one thing to receive the 27 million dollars, previously agreed with the city of Minneapolis, as "compensation" for the death of the African American, and that was to blame the murder on former police officer Derek Chauvin.

Last month The Washington Post reported that the city of Minneapolis, USA, would pay a record $ 27 million to George Floyd's family to settle the wrongful death lawsuit related to his death last year in police custody.

That settlement is the highest ever to have been paid in the city, dwarfing the $ 20 million paid in 2019 to the family of Justine Damond, who was killed by a Minneapolis police officer in 2017.

Floyd's family and his legal team welcomed the agreement without hesitation, saying the record amount was a "vindication" for Floyd and the African Americans who took to the nation's streets to demand social justice after the 46-year-old man's death  years.
