Virginia State Senator Bryce Reeves, a Republican, announced
his withdrawal from the 2026 race for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by
Democrat Mark Warner. He revealed that a serious family health issue requires
him to remain in Virginia and focus his attention on his personal life.
In a message posted on social media, Reeves explained that
the decision was not easy and came after a period of reflection and discussion
with his closest family members. He made it clear that, given the current
circumstances, his absolute priority is to be with his family and address this
health crisis.
The senator emphasized that his faith and family values
were key factors in his decision, as he felt he could not fully meet the
demands of a national campaign without neglecting more pressing
responsibilities in his personal life. For this reason, he decided to end his
federal aspirations and shift his focus to a different political career in the
short term.
Instead of seeking a seat in Washington, Reeves announced he
will run for reelection to the Virginia State Senate, where he currently
represents District 28, aiming to continue serving his constituents without
leaving the state or his family.
His withdrawal from the race reshapes the political
landscape in Virginia within the Republican Party, which will now have to find
another candidate to challenge veteran Senator Mark Warner in an election that
is already shaping up to be strategic. Meanwhile, colleagues and political
leaders have expressed support and respect for Reeves' decision, acknowledging
that it is a choice motivated by human and personal reasons beyond any
electoral calculations.
Reeves himself concluded his message by reaffirming that,
although he is withdrawing from the federal race, he is not retiring from
public service, but will continue working at the state level while closely
supporting his family during this difficult time.
