Bulgaria's prime minister announced the resignation of his
entire government on Thursday, a decision precipitated by a wave of mass
protests that had gained momentum in recent days in the country's major cities.
According to the prime minister, the social pressure had become unsustainable,
and he made it clear that the current cabinet had lost the capacity to maintain
political stability.
The head of government acknowledged that the demonstrations—fueled
by growing public demands regarding the economic situation, corruption, and the
handling of various domestic policies—reflect a deep discontent that requires
"new leadership and a new mandate." The resignation opens the door to
a period of political uncertainty, during which it will be necessary to
determine whether an interim government will be formed or early elections will
be called to renew the administration.
