Oslo, Norway – The United States has deployed P-8 Poseidon
maritime patrol and anti-submarine defense aircraft to Norway to intensify
surveillance operations near the borders with Russia, Newsweek magazine
reported.
The aircraft, designed for submarine tracking, training, and
patrolling, have begun missions in the Baltic Sea, particularly in the area
near Kaliningrad.
According to statements by the Norwegian Armed Forces to
Dagbladet, several of these aircraft are already operating from Germoen
Airport, where they directly support the activities of NATO and regional
allies.
The deployment comes amid growing concern about the
increased Russian presence around submarine cables, oil pipelines, and drone
movements along the borders with Poland, Denmark, and Norway.
