The U.S. Department of Justice's Arms Task Force announced
it is intensifying its investigations targeting high-profile Democratic
figures.
The office's director, Ed Martin, publicly confirmed that
criminal investigations involving Representative Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) and New
York State Attorney General Letitia James are under review.
Adam Schiff, who has been a member of Congress since 2001
and is one of the Democratic Party's most influential voices on national
security issues, rose to prominence during the investigation into Russian
interference in the 2016 election and, later, as one of the leaders of the
impeachment process against Donald Trump. His critics accuse him of abusing his
position in the House of Representatives to promote baseless accusations, while
his supporters defend him as a legislator who acted in defense of institutions
and the rule of law.
For her part, Letitia James, New York's attorney general
since 2019, has led multiple investigations against large corporations and
Republican Party figures, including Donald Trump himself and the Trump
Organization, whom she sued for financial fraud. She has become a target of
criticism from those who believe her prosecutions serve a political agenda
unrelated to justice.
According to sources close to the Department of Justice,
criminal referrals will go through an internal review process before deciding
whether to file formal charges, dismiss the cases, or transfer them to external
judicial bodies.
