Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Rafael Grossi,
Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and other
heads of delegation at the Global Atomic Forum. The meeting took on particular
significance after Grossi officially announced his intention to run for the
position of Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN) in the next term.
During the conversation, Putin highlighted the importance of
the IAEA's role in regulating and supervising the peaceful use of nuclear
energy, as well as in preserving international security. The president also
emphasized the need to maintain international cooperation in the nuclear field,
despite current geopolitical tensions.
Grossi's announcement marks a significant moment in
international diplomacy, as it opens the door to competition for the highest
office in the multilateral system. His candidacy could be accompanied by
intense debates among global powers, in a context where the balance between
energy security, nuclear disarmament, and political rivalries is increasingly
delicate.
