House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., is scheduled to vote
Tuesday on a bill that, if passed, would prevent a partial government shutdown
during the first 100 days of President Donald Trump's term.
Republicans don't have much support from Democrats, so
Johnson believes Republicans can get the 99-page bill that would fund federal
agencies through Sept. 30 passed virtually on its own.
On Friday, March 14, Congress must take action to keep parts
of the government open. Over the past two years, dozens of conservatives have
opposed continuing resolutions. On Saturday, Trump called on Republicans to
work together to support the bill.
"The House and Senate have put together, under the
circumstances, a very good funding bill (CR). All Republicans should vote
(please!) YES next week," Trump wrote on TRUTHSocial. “Great things are coming
for America and I ask everyone to give us a few months to get to September so
we can continue putting the country’s ‘financial house’ in order. Democrats
will do everything they can to shut down our government and we cannot allow
that to happen.”
