Several detainees leave Shiite procession in Indian Kashmir

Dozens of people were arrested on Tuesday after hundreds of faithful from the Shiite minority attended an unauthorized procession on the occasion of the Islamic month of Muharram in Srinagar, in Indian Kashmir.

Police tried to dissuade a mob from defying restrictions on holding a religious procession through Muharram, banned in the region since the 1989 pro-independence armed rebellion.
