The Taliban began exploring a three-month ceasefire in
exchange for the release of its 7,000 prisoners, an attempt to negotiate with
the Kabul government after achieving unprecedented victories on the ground.
The offer from the Taliban comes at a time of extreme
violence in the country following the insurgent offensive that has brought some
130 of the country's 402 districts under their control.
