Guatemalans defend their right to decide how they are governed

GUATEMALA CITY.-  Guatemalans on the ground, demand that the new national government show its promised decision to continue fighting corruption.

Thousands of Guatemalans were demonstrating and blocking roads as part of a national protest called against Attorney General Consuelo Porras and President Alejandro Giammattei for the dismissal of an official considered key in the fight against corruption.

Juan Francisco Sandoval, head of the Special Prosecutor Against Impunity (FECI), an official recognized for his fight against corruption and who had been praised inside and outside the country, was removed from his post a few days ago, which sparked criticism and that the United States government suspended cooperation with the Public Ministry.

At the singing of the national anthem, some 10,000 people blocked from six in the morning one of the main roads in Cuatro Caminos, in western Guatemala, which connects several departments.

Guatemala advances in the citizen's position of asserting its right, thus to choose who administers the country, rather than the officials themselves, according to the results that they bring to the benefit or detriment of the nation.
