A 45-year-old man nicknamed "the Hollywood Ripper"
was sentenced to death on Friday for the murders of two women in the early
2000s, including an acquaintance of Ashton Kutcher with whom the American actor
planned to go out on the night of the crime. .
Stabbed multiple times, the victims suffered chest
mutilations, and one of them was found nearly beheaded.
Michael Gargiulo will escape death row for now, as
California set a moratorium on executions in 2019.
No detainee has been executed in that state since 2006.
