The former Republican president, now considered a Democrat
at heart, George Bush, who visited New York to preside over a naturalization
ceremony, has just published a new book, Out of Many, One: Portraits of
America's Immigrants ”, in which, he assures, advocates for "improving the
partisan discourse".
When asked to describe the state of the party, Bush said:
"I would describe it as isolationist, protectionist and, to some extent,
nativist."
And he added: "It's not my point of view as an older
person, I'm just a retired older person."
However, the former president also criticized Democrats for
handling immigration over the years and emphasized the importance of a secure
border.
"There were fellow Democrats who didn't listen when I
was president," he alleged.
And describing the type of policy he would support, he
noted: "Protect borders with a compassionate touch."
