Arkansas Passes a Ban on State and Local Mask Mandates

Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson signed a law Thursday to ban state or local masks mandates to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, though the ban won't take effect until later this summer.

Last month, Hutchinson stepped down from the state mandate, but cities like Fayetteville and Little Rock were allowed to keep his requirements in place.

The bill is the latest measure the Republican governor has signed to curb state restrictions due to the pandemic. Hutchinson signed bills Wednesday that prohibit state and local governments from requiring virus vaccines or "vaccine passports" to access services.
