The Panamanian authorities reimplanted mobility restrictions
by gender and personal identity number in the capital and in a neighboring
province after the spike in cases of COVID-19 in recent days in the country,
which has already accumulated 16,004 infections and 386 deaths.
On Saturday, the record figures of 16 deaths and 541
contagions detected in the last 24 hours were reported, before which the
Ministry of Health announced that from next Monday, June 8, the strong
restrictions on mobility in the provinces of Panama will resume, where is the
capital, and the neighboring Panama Oeste, where the highest number of
infections have been detected.
Between last Monday and this Saturday, Panama reported a
total of 50 deaths and 2,535 new cases of COVID-19, an escalation that has been
registered three weeks after the first of the six blocks in which it was opened
on May 13. divided the economic revival of the country.
According to the official report this Saturday, there are
405 hospitalized patients, 82 in the intensive care unit (ICU) and 323 in
wards, while home isolation is 5,095.
76,003 tests have been carried out in 89 days of the
pandemic, of which 24% have been positive. In the last 24 hours 1,772 were
practiced.
The announcement of the reimplementation of the restrictions
in the two provinces with the largest population in the country comes less than
a week after the indefinite quarantine was relaxed nationally on Monday, June
1, which since March 25 limited it to two hours daily, according to the number
of personal identity, and gender, the mobility of the population.
The national director of Health, Nadja Porcell, explained
that it has been decided to "return to the measure of restriction by
hours, ID number and gender" only in these two provinces of the 10 that
the country has, due to the "relaxation" shown by people.
It has been detected that the mask is not being properly
worn, which is mandatory in the country, social distancing is not being
respected in public transport, nor in the long lines of supermarkets and other
businesses authorized to operate, argued Porcell .
The Panamanian health system "has not collapsed, but if
it continues," the situation could "exhaust the availability of beds
and fans, and the human resources that serve the pandemic would be
depleted," said the Health official.
THE GRADUAL OPENING OF THE ECONOMY IS MAINTAINED
