Washington, D.C. – Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)
Director Kash Patel issued a strongly worded statement after two suspects
allegedly rammed the vehicle of a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) agent
in an incident that occurred during the recent protests and unrest that have
spread across several cities across the United States.
The attack, which is being investigated as a federal assault
on a government agent, occurred in the Chicago metropolitan area, a city that
in recent weeks has experienced a surge in violence and vandalism associated
with social protests and political tensions.
In a post on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter),
the FBI director expressed his support for law enforcement and assured that
authorities “will not rest until those responsible are brought to justice.”
“Chicago will be saved, and this FBI will continue to combat
violent crime there and across the country. We're heading to the Windy City
now!” Patel wrote, underscoring his personal commitment to safety and law
enforcement.
Federal sources confirmed that the FBI and DHS are working
together to identify the suspects, who, according to preliminary reports, fled
the scene after intentionally crashing into the agent's vehicle. The injured
officer was taken to a local hospital and is reported to be in stable condition
and out of danger.
FBI Chicago spokesman Mark D'Andrea stated that security
video and witness testimony are being reviewed to determine the circumstances
of the attack, which could lead to attempted murder and domestic terrorism
charges, depending on the findings.
