With 217 votes in favor, the resolution expenses bill was approved

On Tuesday, the continuing resolution (CR) spending bill, backed by President Donald Trump, passed with a vote of 217 to 213.

The bill, called “partisan” by Democrats, will fund the government through Sept. 30, 2025. The bill was pushed by the GOP and needed overwhelming support for passage. The only Republican vote opposed was that of Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.). The number of members in the House of Representatives is such that only two GOP members can oppose a measure if all members are present to push a partisan budget line item.

At a meeting Tuesday morning, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) declared, “We have to keep the government running. It’s a fundamental responsibility of ours.” The vice president echoed that sentiment. “It was very well received and very well executed.”

On the eve of the vote, Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) expressed his dissatisfaction with the level of spending on the CR, prompting Trump to threaten a primary against the Kentucky representative./Thepostmillenial
