Federal prosecutors have accused an Internal Revenue Service
contractor of illegally leaking to the media some tax records belonging to
former President Donald Trump along with several other wealthy Americans, The
Wall Street Journal reported Friday.
The charges appear to resolve “a two-year puzzle over a
security breach that sparked outrage from lawmakers and administration
officials,” the WSJ report further notes.
The media also noted:
Charles Littlejohn, 38, of Washington, D.C., was charged
Friday with one count of unauthorized disclosure of tax information and faces
up to five years in prison, according to a Department of Justice news release.
Court records do not name the taxpayers, news organizations
or the company Littlejohn worked for, but the descriptions match two of the
largest and most consequential disclosures of private tax information.
