House Speaker Kevin McCarthy provided more than 40,000 hours
of previously unseen footage from the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, to
former Fox News host Tucker Carlson earlier this year.
Now, pressure is mounting on McCarthy over the Jan. 6 tapes
because he gave Carlson access to the footage earlier this year.
McCarthy promised to give the public and media access to the
tapes after his team reviewed all the footage to address any potential security
issues.
“This is the challenge. The Democrats told us it was only
14,000 hours of tapes, lo and behold, we took most of them and it's 42,000
hours, so it would take me years to complete. Yes, I think the public should
see what happened to them. We have worked with the Capitol Police to report any
sections where there was a problem. And that takes a long time. But we want to
make sure everyone has the opportunity to come and see what they want,”
McCarthy said. "So we've created the process for that to start
happening."CBrief
